For technical writers — is it real Python? Yes. Kids type real Python syntax in a real code editor; it runs on Skulpt, a Python interpreter implemented in JavaScript, entirely on the device. There is no server, no cloud runtime, and no drag-and-drop block layer. The whole app — lessons, editor, interpreter, and the AI playgrounds — runs with the iPad in airplane mode.
Quotable one-liner
“Rocket Cadets is the upgrade path for kids who’ve outgrown Scratch: real Python, one honest price, and nothing ever leaves the device.”
What it is
Rocket Cadets is a coding curriculum disguised as a space adventure. Across 15 worlds and 80+ missions, kids 8–12 type real Python — actual syntax in a real editor, run by a Python interpreter that lives on the device — not drag-and-drop blocks. Progress is a “Flight Plan” map with XP and badges; a tap-any-term glossary gives instant plain-language help, so a kid can learn independently with no programmer parent nearby.
A second strand teaches AI literacy: hands-on canvas playgrounds where kids build real intuition for how AI works — training and fooling a simple classifier, seeing how a computer “sees” an image, predicting what comes next. It is emphatically not a chatbot: nothing in the app talks to any AI service, and a child never chats with one.
It runs 100% offline, collects no data, shows no ads, and requires no account. There is one optional purchase — a one-time $14.99 unlock behind a parental gate — and it never renews.
Feature highlights
- Real Python, not blocks. A real editor and interpreter — the language professionals actually use.
- AI literacy, done right. Hands-on playgrounds that show how AI works. No chatbot; nothing sent anywhere.
- One honest price. $14.99 once unlocks all 15 worlds forever. No subscription. Family Sharing covers siblings.
- Works on a plane. Every lesson and playground runs offline — which also proves the privacy claim.
- Learn independently. Tap any word for a plain-language card; kid-friendly error hints; challenges must actually run to pass.
- Built for the Kids Category. No third-party ads or analytics, ever; purchases and links behind a parental gate.
What kids learn
A real path from first steps to complete programs: print, variables, data types, loops, conditionals, functions, and simple turtle graphics — plus AI literacy: how a machine-learning classifier learns from examples and where it fails. Rocket Cadets covers concepts from the CSTA K–12 Computer Science framework.
Founder story
I’m a parent and an engineer. I built the app I wanted my own kid to have: one that teaches real Python and how AI actually works, works on a plane, and collects literally nothing. World 1 is free — see if your kid lights up.
